My Body Is a Map (2026)

Two-channel synchronized video installation with stereo sound

Commissioned for Fragile Vessels: An Exhibition on Extreme Heat, My Body Is a Map was developed in dialogue with the geoscience research team at the University of Texas at Austin to explore what escapes the heat map and what happens when measured heat becomes lived experience.

The work moves between drone footage of a solitary figure drawing with water across sun-heated asphalt and extreme close-ups of a droplet on the artist’s wrist, where skin, pulse, water, and light transform the body into a shifting topography. Moving between aerial distance and extreme proximity, My Body Is a Map brings scientific measurement into dialogue with bodily sensation, duration, evaporation, and erasure, asking what becomes perceptible when heat is encountered at the scale of the body. The map holds heat at a distance. The body has no such distance. Up close, the body becomes its own map.
